Maddie runs a small business. Every month ended the same way: a shoebox of receipts, a stack of vendor invoices, and an evening lost to retyping numbers into a spreadsheet.
She went looking for help. The professional tools worked beautifully — and they started at $500 a month. For a small shop, that's not software money. That's rent money.
So she built her own. Late nights, open-source OCR, and a lot of stubbornness. The receipt reader came first. Then invoices. Then business cards, tax forms, and the whole shelf of PDF tools. Nothing fancy — but they worked, and they cost her nothing per document.
Word got around. Other small business owners started asking to use them. That's when the shoebox project became Maddie's Lab — the tools she built for herself, opened up for every shop that can't justify $500 a month either.
